197. Strategies for Increasing Student Motivation in Math
Motivating students is one of the most important aspects of mathematics instruction and a critical aspect of the Common Core State Standards. The aim of this paper is to show the most important techniques, based on intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. For it we made a bibliographic review about the most important strategies in several instructional programs in Primary Education. We will discuss their effectiveness in different studies and participants.For it we will focus on: 1. Importance of a mental model: familiar situations vs. unfamiliar situations on the same topic. 2. Sequential achievement 3. Working the pattern. 4. Usefulness of a topic. 5. Playfulness facilities (puzzles, games,….) 6.Use of math in real situations. 7. Mathematical curiosities.
