17: STUDY OF THE INTENTION OF SCHOOL EVASION OF DEAF STUDENTS FRON HIGH SCHOOL TECHNICAL PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION AT IFMA – MONTE CASTELO

The Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Maranhão (IFMA) intended 5% of vacancies from High School Technical Professional Education (EPTNM) for students with disabilities. One investigated EPTNM deaf students from IFMA – Campus Monte Castelo, in order to understand the choice of these students for IFMA and the chosen technical course, highlight the reasons for evasion, and identify their post course intention. One raised data and sought students for interview. In 2012 there were two deaf students; in 2013, seven; in 2014 six. The two ones from 2012 have already been approved for UFMA through the High School National Exam (ENEM) for Dentistry and Electrical Engineering. Thirteen deaf students were interviewed: one had his course registration locked (passed in a federal public contest), six were in the fourth semester of the technical course (2nd year: four were from the technical integrated course and two were from technical concomitant course) and six in the second semester (1st year: three were from integrated course, two from concomitant course and one was from technical subsequent course). 58.3% of them had chosen IFMA aiming continuing their studies. 58,3% intend to work in the area and go to university, 50% of them intend to go to university, 50% intend a career in the same or related area. 41.65% chose IFMA gleaming employment opportunities, 27% for vocation and 16,7% for family or friends orientation. 50% pointed out the content as the biggest difficulty (33,3% from professional specific subjects and 16,7% from high school subjects). 33.3% pointed out communication in classroom as the biggest difficulty (25% with teachers; 8,33% with classmates. 83,3% of students pointed out communication as the biggest problem at school.
